For two shows in early 2007 we expanded our songs into 5 channels and invited audience members bring boomboxes. We broadcast parts of our songs on an FM frequency to the boomboxes scattered throughout the crowd.

EAST BAY EXPRESS IS DOWN WITH THE BOOM BOXES

The East Bay Express blog is giving some love to our upcoming boom box show at Bottom of the Hill. Check it out HERE.
Oakland electronic rock act Pants Pants Pants have noisy plans for their January 26 show at Bottom of the Hill. They seek anyone with boomboxes or radios of any shape for a "total immersion surround-sound experience" at the small, indie-rock venue. The band will broadcast unique parts of songs via FM transmitter to radios and boomboxes in the audience. "This new venture expands on the band's recent practice of placing and independent programmed third channel amplifier in the rear of the clubs they play." This type of audio stunt echoes the Flaming Lips' experiments with multitracked music presented via a multitude of car stereos [See the Lips's wikipedia entry for "parking-lot experiments" and then later, "boombox experiments".] But no biggie. It sounds like the kind of thing you can bring your out-of-town friends to as further proof that your town is cooler, weirder, and more innovative than their town.

THE CHRON IS DOWN WITH THE BOOM BOX
|

Bill Picture wrote about us again in the San Francisco Chronicle's Pop Beat:
Pants Pants Pants is kicking off the new year with a series of "boom-box shows." The audience at the indie-tronic trio's gig Friday at Bottom of the Hill will get to experience the band's music in poor man's surround-sound. Fans are being asked to bring their ghetto blasters (or radios of any size) with them to the show, as Pants Pants Pants will broadcast portions of its songs to the radios in the audience via an FM transmitter.
Pants Pants Pants recently started placing an independent, third-channel amplifier at the back of venues when it plays to create, as the band puts it, "multidimensional layered sound." The addition of the audience-provided radios brings the total number of channels to five. What does that mean? Unlike traditional shows, where the sound is directed at the audience from the stage in front, the music at this show can come at you from any direction and from anywhere in the club -- including the bar, the smoking patio or even the bathroom. So the audience will be immersed in sound. Go to www.pantspantspants.biz to get more information.
